STSPlus for
Windows
Satellite
Tracking Software (STS)
You are "The Ground Crew"
when it comes to actually watching stuff from the ground in Real
Time. The history of 'charting the stars comes to play when
looking into the night sky for 'Flyers'.
Knowing the
pattern of a satellite that passes over your area of the planet
will be easier once you have a niffty little program like: STSPlus
for Windows by
David H. Ransom Jr..
The program is Shareware and the author asks for a few dollars
as fair for using it, plus it gets him to send you the updates,
and TLE DATA from US Space Command & CelesTrak. You can learn how to comminicate
and listen for "birds" in no-time with this DOS-Windows
based program.. (You have to take a few minutes to enter the
needed "work-file-directories" to setup before you
begin.)
Charting and
Updating these 'high-fly'in-birds' lets you experience
the world of Satellite Communications "first-hand",
and anyone that wants to get messages and pictures from space;
such as; National Weather Photos (NOAA), and Hubble
Space Teloscope (HST) images, plus a host of other "Public Satellites" for Students and Amatures to use everyday...not to mention the ability to
follow the Space Program. Your
interests or needs might have you build a Receiver & Transmitter
Station, which lets you connect your PC to the Internet, and
any digital phone, TV, or most personal communication devices.

To learn more
on this Profession and Real -Time-Hobby,or even participate in some of the upcoming events at: NASA ARRL; they have been higly active towards
the public for years, and have tons of books and resources for
those just starting . One of the best books ever written and
sold was; the Radio Satellite Hanbook..
In the FULL-VERSION
of this title, I show you all the basics for creating, building,
and using your new Direct-Line Communication System as with;
Security Systems, Global Positioning Systems (GPS I & II),
Internet (ISP) WLAN & ISM and a variety of others including the OSCAR Satellite Program (the P3D
& Amateur TV (ATV).plus the WEFAX
and one of my oldies and favorites, Slow Scan Television..SSTV.
For a basic Home Tracking Station
& Communications Control Center, I have found STSPlus
to be the winner for reliabity, although... I still use a couple
other DOS applications just for 'backup' tracking like: PCTracker 3.1 (pctrk311.zip)
from Johnson Scientific on an older machine.
