If you are one to be very concerned about your health and safety in having clean air to breath, this will "scrub" the air in a 20x20 room in less than a couple hours. It has a reserve-basin for adding Rubbing Alcohol or Bleach for even more "sterilization" of the air output. The active charcol and UV light was found at my local pet/fish supply store. The Active charcol can be purchased in bulk, but the UV light (GE-J Bulb) may not be available from all pet stores. The UV Light might be found at sears, and be the 'bar' or "I-Bulb" type, (make sure it's no bigger than the interior of the vaccum). The UV light's purpose is invaluable for the "sterilization" of bacteria, and bio-germ contaminents. Microscopic germs are not killed, but rather sterilized from breeding, thus the multiply proccess is stopped. The alcohol reserve is a tupperware container with room for about 1 pint (473ml) of 70%-91% topical solution. In other tests; the use of Clorox bleach "fresh scent" was used, but it still left a strong odor in the room. The filter is an automotive type (FRAM) and can be used instead of a Hepa filter. The hepa-type can remove more particles (per million), but is rather expensive and may not work well "wet" from alcohol. The FRAM filter works best if you intend to use alcohol. The CopyCat Air Scrubber is designed for inexpensive protection from airborne germs, gases, odors, dust, pollen and even most endotoxins, myotoxins, and even biotoxins. You should be able to build this device for under $50 dollars, and be able to include this in your current plans for a SAFE-ROOM, or CLEAN-ROOM. This unit can also be modified if you are experienced with some basic or advanced engineering skills. When modified, the unit can also be used to bio-clean or treat water for drinking purposes. (e-mail me for more info.) (NOTE) It is possible to effect the air in a clean room if you have clothes on that was worn "outside" or if you allow air into the room from an outside source that is not clean. Keep a set of clean-clothes handy, and work on a routine for in-and-out traffic. This device is still in R&D (research & development), and exact details are not available. You are more than welcome to share this information with others, and should check back regularly for new updates.Click on the links below for the (experimental) model diagram(s) of the design that has the best promise for a real homemade air-scrubber.
